75th Law for the People Convention
The Los Angeles Chapter will be welcoming the 75th Law for the People convention
at the Pasadena Hilton
October 10-14, 2012

Last year's convention in Philadelphia was great! Here's what Whitney Leeds, law student at CU, thought about it:
As a 1L, the national convention proved to me that for once in my life, I'm in the right place, doing the right thing. For years I wondered whether I could swallow a career in law knowing how much distaste I have for the present paradigm. Having seen at the convention just how many have chosen to make a life out of fighting for what they believe in, this convention became a safe-house for me. It gives me immense pride to sit in a room full of people with such conviction and dedication. I was surprised by just how humble most attendees were. While many think lawyers only like to hear the sound of their own voices, NLG members across the country often and rightfully defer to the voices of the activists whose causes they defend. I could talk about the workshops I attended and the invaluable lessons I learned, but the most meaningful aspect to the convention was the sense of community. In the midst of the biggest mass movement this country has seen in half a century, the Occupy Wall Street movement, the Guild is more important now than ever. I have faith that the Occupy movement will be stronger and better equipped because of the NLG, and I'm immensely proud to be a part of it. Solidarity!
The 2010 convention in New Orleans was a huge success! See what others had to say about their experience:
"The convention was a great experience for me. I was able to gain an insight into the Guild and the many projects and committees it is involved in. I was surprised to find that I care about and am interested in so many things that the Guild is doing! The best part for me was meeting so many like-minded lawyers, law students, and legal workers who share my same values and perspectives--something I'm definitely not used to experiencing in law school. It's really motivated me to be more involved with the Guild and I can't wait till next year's convention!"

"I attended my first NLG national conference this year, and it is an experience that I would recommend to everyone. Apart from the pleasant experience of staying in the French Quarter of New Orleans with all of its vibrant activity and good food, the conference itself was a tremendously enriching experience. There were presentations on just about every subject that you could imagine: labor and employment issues, defending military dissenters, international human rights problems and a whole host of national civil liberty concerns. The best part of the conference for me though, was the amazingly talented dedicated lawyers and legal workers that I met, and with whom I have common cause. I came back to Colorado charged up and motivated for my work here, with many friendships and contacts that will continue to enrich my work and life."
