FBI Is Training Local Law Enforcement on Targeting of the Left

Reporter Daniel Boguslaw published an exclusive story for Zeteo on April 7, detailing Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) internal emails instructing local law enforcement on carrying out the Trump administration’s crackdown on dissent from the left. The FBI-led training focuses on President Trump’s NSPM-7 national security memorandum, which was published publicly in September 2025 and attempts to criminalize a range of commonly-held left-wing political beliefs and so-called subversive activities.

Boguslaw framed the effect of the presidential directive this way:

“What this development means in practice is if you have criticized a corporation on social media, held a sign that demands ICE leave your city, shared a meme about alleged UnitedHealthcare CEO killer Luigi Mangione, or publicly condemned Trump’s Iran war at a local town hall, both the federal government and your local police could take note and forward along a list of your thoughtcrimes to the FBI for further review.”
