Safe school reopening
The NLG values workers' rights, disability justice, public health, and equitable and accessible education. The Colorado chapter of the NLG has formed the Safe School Reopening Committee, which is organizing to pressure Governor Jared Polis to halt public school reopening until it is safe to do so.

We demand:

-
Delayed reopening or online-only instruction for every public school until its school district has 14 days with zero new COVID-19 positive cases;
-
Meals to students who would otherwise receive free or reduced breakfast and lunch during the period before school buildings reopen;
-
Technology and internet access to all students and staff who lack it and who engage in online instruction during the period before school buildings reopen;
-
Child care for all students whose parents or guardians are unable to provide it during the period before school buildings reopen;
-
Timely adaptation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) and 504s for schools engaging in online instruction for use during the period before school buildings reopen; and
-
Engagement of custodial, office, food service, and staff in student support to avoid the need for layoffs.
